The role of consumers and carers in Health Networks

Consumers and carers play an important role in shaping our health services. Health Networks recognise this and all our Networks have consumer and carer representatives on their Executive Advisory Groups. We actively encourage consumers and carers to be involved in every Network project. Every Model of Care has had consumers involved in every step of its development.

Our completed projects page, includes copies of resources and policy documents that have been completed by individual networks. Examples of projects include Models of Care, consumer/patient cards and information brochures, websites and guidelines.

As Networks move forward with the task of encouraging implementation of these Models, consumers continue to play a role in ensuring the consumer and carer voice is heard and influences improvements in health care services. As part of this Network consumer and carer representatives are developing resources specifically for consumers to help them manage their condition and have access to the information they need.

Carers and consumers also have an active role to play in encouraging health services to include them in their health care decisions and to advocate for the changes that are recommended in models of care.
