Prof. Jeff Hamdorf
Professor Hamdorf holds the position of Professor of Medical Education at the University of Western Australia (UWA). This position includes directing the Clinical Education and Training Centre (CETC), giving him responsibility for the quality of education within the Faculty as well as directing the activities of the medical simulation centre. Professor Hamdorf also has a clinical attachment with St John of God Hospital and, until recently, had a clinical attachment with Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Professor Hamdorf is chair of the West Australian Trauma Education Committee and has been the Chair of the state committee of the RACS and convened the College’s Annual Scientific Congress in Perth in 2005. Professor Hamdorf is a former member of the Board of Basic Surgical Training and chaired the Basic Surgical Skills Group which introduced mandatory skills training for all surgical trainees in Australasia.
Professor Hamdorf’s medical training included an undergraduate degree through UWA, completion of a Ph.D and graduation from UWA’s surgerical training program. Following two years as a Visiting Academic at the University of New South Wales he completed post fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. Professor Hamdorf has developed clinical interests in laparoscopic surgery and upper gastrointestinal malignancies. In the last several years his clinical interests have extended to the multi disciplinary approach to weight control. He is considered an expert in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal surgery particularly pertinent to adjustable gastric banding.
