Dr John Van der Post
Dr Van der Post is an Emergency Physician (FACEM), currently practicing in both the tertiary and peripheral sectors. In addition to his State Health roles, John is Commissioner of Volunteer First Aid Services for the St John Ambulance Association. In this role John is responsible for the strategic direction of the Volunteer First Aid Branch.
John has a broad health background, having worked in a variety of clinical capacities in a number of countries with differing health systems.
John completed his basic medical training at Cape Town in South Africa. He then undertook surgical training in Scotland and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. From there John moved to New Zealand to practice Emergency Medicine and subsequently became director an Accident and Medical General Practice, an internationally unique role in primary care. Whilst practising at Sir Charles Hospital (SCG) where he remains today, he achieved FACEM status.
John believes that Health Networks provide a valuable opportunity to shape the future of Health in WA, and encourages involvement and engagement in this process.
