Dr Simon Towler
Dr Simon Towler was appointed to the position of Western Australia’s Chief Medical Officer in 2005. Dr Towler has a passion for health reform to meet the ever-increasing demands our health system faces. His past roles include being President of the Australian Medical Association (WA Branch), and he brings with him a broad range of experience and training in the critical care field. Dr Towler also continues to practice part time as an Intensivist in the Intensive Care Units of Royal Perth Hospital, St John of God’s Hospital (Subiaco) and the Mount Hospital.
Under Dr Towler’s leadership, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer consists of a policy unit, Health Networks, WA Cancer and Palliative Care Division, Research and Development Unit and the Reproductive Technology Unit.
Key responsibilities of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer include:
- Health Networks. Since his appointment, Dr Towler has guided the establishment of Health Networks in the State, linking their activity to the development of strategic health policy to assist in planning health services across Western Australia. In doing so, Dr Towler has paved the way for policy makers to work closely with clinicians throughout the WA health system.
