WAKTS - WA Kidney Transplant Service

The WA Kidney Transplant Service (WAKTS) was created in November 2004 to implement the integration of Renal Transplant Services across Perth, in accordance with Recommendation 38 of the Reid Report recognising the urgent need for uniform practices in relation to renal transplantation recognised by Nephrologists and Transplant Surgeons in WA.

The WAKTS comprises of Renal Specialists from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, Fremantle Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. Together, this single integrated service enables greater collaboration between Nephrologists and development of common clinical standards and protocols. In addition, better flexibility in terms of access to operating theatres and support resources, particularly in the event of multi-organ retrieval and transplantation, has been achieved.

Caring for Australasians with Renal Impairment Guidelines (CARI)

The CARI Guidelines is an evidence-based project that commenced in 1999 for which the Council of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN) and the Board of Kidney Health Australia (KHA) have assumed responsibility. It is anticipated the guidelines will serve as a valuable educational resource and means of enhancing the quality, appropriateness, consistency and cost-effectiveness of renal health to improve health care and outcomes for patients with kidney disease by helping clinicians and health care workers to adhere to evidence-based medical practice where possible.
